Here's the answer to last week's Biz Buzz about an area restaurant changing hands as the well-known owner decides to focus more on Rochester's downtown:
At the end of the Rainbow, two young Rochester chefs have found a their own type of treasure. Jennifer Richards and Jeremy Olson recently bought the Rainbow Cafe in Pine Island from well-known Rochester restaurateur Jeff Eastman. Eastman decided to sell the Rainbow, so he could focus on opening his new Salad Brothers Cafe & Deli in downtown soon.
Richards and Olson, both classical trained chefs, already know their way around a kitchen. In fact, the engaged couple met in a kitchen, the one in the City Café in Rochester.
“This is kind of our passion,” says Richards. “It was kind of a sudden opportunity that fell into our laps. We both fell in love with the place.”
It will open under their ownership Wednesday. Richards, who served as the pastry chef at Sontes and Prescott’s in Rochester, will do all of the baking and handle catering duties. Olson will manage the kitchen.
“We’re keep the same menu for the Rainbow’s fans,” she said. Olson and Richards will also offer nightly specials to bring their own creations to the table.
The couple plans on keeping the current staff of 10 to 12 people and keeping the name.
